MENGENAI Ratenggaro Traditional Village
This village is unique because their traditional houses have towers that are up to 20 meters high. In other villages, traditional houses only have a tower height of about 8 meters. Ratenggaro, which means the Garo grave, is famous for its 304 stone graves where three of them are uniquely located on the beach. People in this village still practice Marapu traditions and ancestral customs such as other villages in Southwest Sumba. The site of Ratenggaro village is adjacent to the Wainyapu village site. They are located on the beach and separated by the Waiha river estuary. Ratenggaro village is often visited by cruise ship tourists because it is located on the beach and clearly visible from a distance when on the boat, and easy to reach from the shoreline, about a 200 meter walk.
