Wainyapu Village consists of original indigenous houses called Uma Kalada that are well maintained. This traditional village is appealing due to its authentic traditional houses and have over 1000 unique megalithic tomb stones. Its people still continue to maintain ancient customs and traditions of Marapu. Ancient cultural traditions such as the building of their houses, withdrawal of gravestones, and Pasola traditional ceremonies are famous among tourists and are still ongoing in this village. It is located right on the beach side of Wainyapu and is a unique sight when standing on the beach to see towers of their traditional houses that peak behind the trees. Foreign tourists, especially cruise ship travellers who sail along south Sumba often stop by this village to witness its ancient cultural traditions that are hard to find today.
